Shopping
The stretch from Poole through to Bournemouth offers a surprisingly varied shopping scene – the kind where you can find everything from high street favourites to independent boutiques tucked away in beautiful Victorian arcades. Whether you’re after a proper browse, hunting for something specific, or simply want to wander and see what catches your eye, there’s plenty to explore.
The Dolphin Poole is Dorset’s largest indoor shopping centre and very much the heart of Poole’s retail scene. With over 90 stores under one roof, it brings together high street names you know and love alongside a brilliant community spirit. What makes it special is Kingland – a dedicated area that’s home to Dorset’s finest local independent retailers. From fashion to furniture, vintage treasures to homeware, Kingland celebrates the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the local area. Add in street food dining, community events at GATHER, and a monthly artisan street market, and you’ve got far more than just a shopping centre.
Castlepoint Shopping Centre sits just off Castle Lane West in Bournemouth and is one of the largest shopping parks in the UK. With over 35 retailers spread across an open-plan layout, there’s space to breathe and plenty of variety. The real bonus here is the parking – over 2,800 spaces with four hours free – which makes it wonderfully stress-free, particularly if you’re visiting with family or have a proper shopping list to tackle.
Royal Arcade in Boscombe has real character. This beautifully restored Victorian arcade from 1892 feels special the moment you step inside, with its elegant architecture and independent shops offering everything from vintage finds to artisan goods. It’s worth visiting just to admire the building itself, but stay for the browsing – there’s always something interesting.
The Bournemouth Arcade is another gem from the Victorian era, tucked away in the town centre. It’s the kind of place where you can lose track of time wandering between quirky independent retailers, jewellers, and specialist shops. The atmosphere is intimate and charming, quite different from the busier shopping streets outside.
Westbourne Arcade sits in one of Bournemouth’s most vibrant villages, where the independent spirit really thrives. The Victorian arcade houses lovely specialist shops and boutiques, and you’re right on the doorstep of Westbourne’s tree-lined streets filled with cafes, delis, and more independent stores. It’s brilliant for a leisurely afternoon of browsing, coffee, and soaking up the village atmosphere.
